Saint Celestine Shrine Statue

A case study in painting verdigris and object source lighting effects. The idea was to create the effect of a brass statue that has oxidised with green verdigris and create the illusion of fire and light using acrylic and enamel paints. The blindfold has been sculpted on to slighter alter the overall look.

From a distance maybe rather monotonous looking in terms of colour, but the art is in the subtle details. Different shadows, gradients and varnish finished help to create different effects for cloth, shiny wet areas of torn flesh, the magically gleaming wooden staff or a satin shine on the tentacles.
